HRL back in the news, let’s keep the pressure on!
Huge thanks to everyone who turned out at VCAT yesterday to demonstrate the enormous public opposition to HRL’s new coal-fired power plant in Victoria. The rally succeeded in pushing HRL’s plans back into the media spotlight and highlighting the hypocrisy of a so-called Environmental Protection Agency approving a new coal-fired power station in a world rapidly running out of time to avert catastrophic climate change.
Help keep the pressure on! Sign this petition to Stop HRL!
It’s nearing crunch time for HRL, with the Federal Government set to decide at the end of the year whether or not to revoke its $100 million grant, and Julia Gillard already noting that HRL have not met any of the milestones of the grant. But we have already seen this year what kind of shady deals HRL can get done behind closed doors, with the Victorian Auditor General already investigating the state government’s forgiving of the company’s $385 million dollar intellectual property debt in July.
This is why it is now vital that we keep the pressure on to have HRL’s grant revoked.
SIGN THE PETITION
Please take a few minutes to help our friends at Environment Victoria and Greenpeace with their huge petition effort. They are aiming for at least 10,000 signatures against HRL by the end of the year to make sure that the federal grant gets revoked.
